Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a form of treating mental health problems by talking with a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, licensed counselor, or other mental health providers. While attending therapy, individuals gain knowledge about their condition, mood, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Psychotherapy helps individuals learn how to take control of their life and respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills.

Evolution Therapeutic Services Inc. (ETS) can provide a fresh perspective and offer practical approaches that empower individuals to take control of their lives and respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills. Treatment at ETS may include brief or short-term therapy as well as long-term psychotherapy.  The goal is to understand the situation in an intensive, helpful, and exploratory way.

There are many types of psychotherapy, each with different approaches. The type of psychotherapy depends on the individual situation. Psychotherapy is also known as talk therapy, counseling, psychosocial therapy, or simply therapy.

Although many types of therapies exist, some psychotherapy techniques have proven to be effective including:

  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), helps identify unhealthy, negative beliefs and behaviors and replace them with healthy, positive ones.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy,a form of CBT that teaches behavioral skills to assist individuals handle stress, manage teaches emotion and improve relationships with others.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy,teaches individuals awareness and acceptance of thoughts and feelings and commitment to making changes, increasing the ability to cope and adjust t situations.
  • Psychodynamic and psychoanalysis therapies,which focus on increasing ones’ awareness of unconscious thoughts and behaviors, developing new insights into your motivations, and resolving conflicts.
  • Interpersonal psychotherapy, focuses is to address problems with your current relationships with other people to improve your interpersonal skills — how you relate to others, such as family, friends, and colleagues.
  • Supportive psychotherapy,strengthen ones’ ability to cope with stress and manage difficult situations.

Psychotherapy is offered in different formats, including individual, couple, family, or group therapy sessions, and it can be effective for all age groups.

Not everyone who benefits from psychotherapy is diagnosed with a mental illness. Psychotherapy can help with many life stresses and conflicts that can affect anyone. For example, it may help:

  • Anxiety disorders,such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, panic disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

In some cases, psychotherapy can be as effective as medications, such as antidepressants. However, depending on your specific situation, psychotherapy alone may not be enough to ease the symptoms of a mental health condition. You may also need Pharmacotherapy that includes medications, therapy, or other mental health treatments.
